Our Faerie Ancestors

Our Faerie Ancestors (Beloved Dead)

In Loving Memory of Members of the Radical Faerie Tribe

Updated 1/03/12
(compact version for cellphones)

This list is sorted by date of death. Names without a date are towards the end, in alphabetical order.
To look up a particular person, use your browser's "Find" command.

About this list

We believe this to be the most-complete list in existence of faeries who have died; you are invited to send additions and corrections.
You can also send pictures, Web pages, and other digital memorabilia, which will be preserved on this site, accessible to all. (Especially helpful: one or two photos clearly showing the person's face, to include here; some of us don't remember names well!) Or you can mail us your prints, to be scanned and returned. We're looking for volunteers to scan photos, compile names, or help maintain these pages; there's an email list for discussions about this Faerie Ancestors page.

Pictures, please! As you can see, many of these dear people have appallingly unflattering photos; hundreds have no picture at all. There are probably suitable photographs on your computer, or sitting on your desk! I'll happily do the cropping and Photoshopping; prints will be scanned and carefully returned to you. Just send me an email. (P.S. Before scanning them yourself, please see our suggestions.)

About this list

Who's included: Radical Faeries who died of any cause; most of these people (but not all) were claimed by the AIDS pandemic. We're only including members of our particular community, rather than friends and other inspiring individuals who died of AIDS; that list would be much harder to compile, and a different project. The Radical Faeries didn't have a clearly-defined beginning, so we include related communities (such as Magdalen Farm and Short Mountain) which preceded the first big national gatherings. In scanning through old publications, we skip people who appear to be in the "friends" category; if you know of somebody who was left out, by all means let us know!

Only one non-human is included: Momma, the white dog who lived at Wolf Creek from before the early RFD days, and who owned the place more than any of us did. She had a strong place in the community and knew it.

Fill in the gaps: If you can add some of the missing names or dates, or have a photo that's suitable for use here, contact us. Please compare this list to your own, and help fill in what's missing! (Here are the sources we've used so far.)

A printable version of this list is available (one line per name, omits the pictures and white space), in MS Word and Rich Text formats. (Being generated manually, it won't always be as current as the Web page; see the date at the end of the document.)

Our page background is from Gryphon Blackswan's burial shroud.

History, Crew, Discussion: This list began in early 1997, writing down names and talking to other people who had their own lists. Thus far, the project is just me, Mugwort; I'd like to see a team of volunteers develop, so we can begin scanning and archiving photographs. (Pictures get lost or damaged, and can only be seen by whoever physically has them. Once on the Web, we'll all be able to see them, and they can be backed up.) You're welcome to join in whatever way interests you. I've created a Yahoo Group for anybody interested in this list; I expect the volume of messages to be light.

Change notification: You can be informed by email whenever changes are made to this page. It's a free service, and unlikely to send Spam (bad for their business).

Please send errors, comments, suggestions, additions, or Web references to Mugwort (fey-...@pobox.com).
Please see our submissions info before mailing any photos!
