Paganism
SOME CHARACTERISTICS OF PAGANISM

There is probably no agreement anywhere as to exactly what constitutes paganism, but I identify these as some common themes among religions, practices, and world views that have been described as "Pagan":

polytheism, pantheism, or refracted monotheism

mysticism (direct experience of the Holy)

Earth-centeredness, environmental sensitivity, or worship of nature

devotion to the Goddess or the Divine Feminine as well as or instead of to the Divine Masculine

attention to the rhythms of the Cosmos and our resulting seasons

attention to spatial connectedness via the Interdependent Web

attention to temporal connectedness at a mundane level (e.g., cycles of life/rites of passage) and at a meta-level (e.g., reincarnation)

celebration of embodiment and sensuality

practice of magick, i.e., focusing the will to work transformation, through spellcasting and/or direct action

conscious and intentional wielding of ritual (ordered repetitive action)

conscious and intentional use of altered states of consciousness through right-brained activities or substance use

honoring of spiritual as well as physical ancestors
