Our Faerie Ancestors (Beloved Dead)

In Loving Memory of Radical Faeries

Updated 11/19/2023 (529 names) About

The Billies now have a memorial list. We have a YouTube channel. (Thus far, two videos of Gryphon Blackswan.)

This page is: radfae.org/ancestors.
Sorted by date of death; those without a date are towards the end, alphabetically.
Other versions: compact, alphabetical, printable pdf, new name index, and older-format.

This seems to be the only list for North American faeries; we hope to merge in lists from elsewhere. We depend on you to send in additions and corrections! Photos (digital or old prints) can provide the image for somebody here who has no picture at all, or whose only photo is so unflattering.

About this list

Who's included: Radical Faeries who died of any cause; most of these people (but not all) were claimed by the AIDS pandemic. We're only including members of our particular community, rather than friends and other inspiring individuals who died of AIDS; that list would be much harder to compile, and a different project. The Radical Faeries didn't have a clearly-defined beginning; we include communities (such as Magdalen Farm and Short Mountain) which preceded the first big national gatherings. In looking through old publications, we skip people who appear to be in the “friends” category; if you know of somebody who was left out, by all means let us know!

Only one non-human is included: Momma, the white dog who lived at Wolf Creek long before the Nomenus days, and who owned the place more than any of us did. She had a strong place in the community and knew it.

Fill in the gaps: If you can add some of the missing names or dates, or have a photo that's suitable for use here, contact us. Please compare this list to your own, and help fill in what's missing! (Here are the sources we've used so far.)

A printable version is available (one line per name, omits the pictures), in Word and pdf formats. (Being generated manually, it won't always be as current as the Web page; see the date at the end of the document.)

History, Crew, Discussion: This list began in early 1997, writing down names and talking to other people who had their own lists. Thus far, the project is just me, Mugwort; I'd like to see a team of volunteers develop, so we can begin scanning and archiving photographs. (Pictures get lost or damaged, and can only be seen by whoever physically has them. Once on the Web, we'll all be able to see them, and they can be backed up.) You're welcome to join in whatever way interests you. I've created a Yahoo Group for anybody interested in this list; I expect the volume of messages to be light.
